Everyday Making, Showing, Talking

'Everyday in this class we'll aim to make something, show it to somebody and talk about it.'

During this 2 day workshop, participants will generate their own in-house performance series, utilising internal and external resources: improvisational scores, movement manipulation techniques, chance compositions, ready-mades, mash-ups etc. The workshop will aim to generate ideas, create material and formulate structures that may be useful in individual creative practices, in collaborative relationships and in the way we see, talk about and experience each others work.

Both days will kick off with Rebecca's technique class which investigates the participants' relationship to dancing someone else's material: Where do you meet the material and what does that exchange do to it and to you? Beginning with a simple warm up utilising information from several anatomically based movement systems (Klein, Bernard, Rowlands) and informed by a variety of modern and contemporary dance practices (Cunningham, Brown, Dumas). the class then becomes devoted to dancing phrase material working with processes involving repetition, integration, efficiency and interpretation. How is movement information divisible from the aesthetic, the container it's learned inside of and how do these ideas manifest in your body, in your thinking, in your dancing?

Rebecca Hilton is a Melbourne based dancer, teacher, choreographer and community artist.
