WORKSHOP with MARTIN DEL AMO
The Body Exists To Be Tested
06 May 2013 - 10 May 2013
As dancers, we are trained to perform extremely complex movement material and make it look effortless. It's precisely our training, however, that sometimes makes us forget how powerful a simple gesture can be, or a moment of stillness, or a mere flick of an isolated body part.
This workshop takes an investigative approach to dance making, exploring various improvisational and compositional strategies to generate, structure and analyse solo dance material.
MARTIN DEL AMO is a Sydney-based choreographer and dancer. He is perhaps best known for his full-length solos fusing idiosyncratic movement and intimate storytelling. In recent years he has extended his practice to creating group works and solos for others. These include Slow Dances For Fast Time (Carriageworks, 2013) and Anatomy of an Afternoon (Sydney Opera House, 2012 Sydney Festival). Martin has been nominated for a Helpmann Award (2012) and two Australian Dance Awards (2010 and 2005).
