Screen Dance Writing Workshop & Masterclass

Professor Liz Aggiss supported by the British Council brings her Screen Dance Writing Workshop and Masterclass to Dancehouse.

12.30 - 2.30pm Session 1  (Screen Dance Writing Workshop: From Thought to Word to Deed)

This practical workshop invites participants to bring their ideas to this session. Using creative writing, critical debate, alongside studying screen dance and film clips, participants will work towards developing written treatments, and consider appropriate ways to manifest their ideas into a reality. 3.30 - 5.30  Session 2  (Screen Dance Masterclass : a Personal History)

This seminar presentation charts Professor Aggiss' personal performance history from live to screen space and the shifts and considerations posed in reframing and re-conceiving a dance language for the screen. Using examples from her 30-year practice this presentation analyses her screen dance films from the initial ideas and written treatments to the final production.

Liz Aggiss is a performer, choreographer, screen dance maker and Professor at the University of Brighton. She has toured nationally and internationally as a live artist and Performance Lecturer since 1980.

Awards for her screen dance practice include; Motion Control for the BBC, Czech Crystal Prague Golden Film Festival 2002, Honourable Mention Paula Citron Award Toronto 2002, Special Jury Golden Houston 2003 Best Woman Film Media Waves Hungary 2003: Anarchic Variations for Capture, Romanian National Office of Cinematography 2003, Special Jury Mention "Il Coreografo Elettronico" at Napolidanza 2004: Men in the Wall for Capture, Dance Camera West Los Angeles Festival 2007 for Innovation in the field of Dance Media: Diva for Channel 4, Hong Kong Jumping Frames Screen Dance 2008.

She received the Bonnie Bird Choreography Award in 1994 and Arts Council Dance Fellowship 2003.

Artists are required to bring a proposal for a screen work to the workshop. A small group of 10 - 12 participants will present and discuss their ideas facilitated by Liz.
