2018 KEIR CHOREOGRAPHIC AWARD - DANCEHOUSE PUBLIC PROGRAM

The KCA Dancehouse Public Program accompanies the KCA performance season and is an integral part of this initiative — and of Dancehouse's ongoing commitment to promote dialogue, reflection, accessibility and criticality for the art form, its makers and its audiences.

This diverse public program is now an integral part of the award. It aims to cross-pollinate an array of outstanding thinkers and practitioners from the dance field and other communities of thought — in order to provide a unique context in which to consider the deep, subtle ways that dance, with its multiplicity of choreographed and embodied practices, connects to the social, the ethical and the political.

With this program, we were particularly interested in exploring how choreography refracts and intervenes within this century of hyper individualisation, the utter 'selfie-isation' of our selves at a time of disquieting populism and increasing precarity.

As neoliberalism continues to insidiously erode the social, the humane and any collective mode of action, whilst proclaiming the self-sufficient individual as the only player, we hope that choreography today can propose new forms of being and of coming together: new modes of activating agency, responsibility and care; new forms or re-tuning the self to re-invent imagination, participation and sensitivity.

This Public Program prolongs and expands on the Keir Choreographic Award Semi-Finals Season. Read more and book for the semi-finals HERE
