That which cannot be put into words - those things we don't wish to speak of or those that go without saying. In moments of communal grieving, consoling, conversing, gossiping, joking, arguing - we use our shared knowledge and human experience to read between the lines, but at times those moments are lost or misunderstood. In silence, we wish to speak our minds yet often miss the chance and in conversation we long for space but don't always leave it.

This work is written for 14 voices using experimental and extended vocal techniques with intricate, textural layering, conceptual improvising and subtle integration of movement. The piece premiered in April this year (2010) as the winner of the MJFF APRA Composer's Commission which took place at BMW EDGE amphitheatre to rave reviews and a standing ovation.
Don't miss the anticipated second performance of this captivating show.

'The audience had never quite heard anything like Slater's adventurous and highly inventive offering... it was a treat to hear Slater's amazing vocal agility, allowing her to make huge interval leaps while producing high notes of great purity. There was no doubting the work's artistic success when on completion it received a standing ovation.' - Andra Jackson (The Age)
