Dancehouse is on Wurundjeri Country. We offer our respects to the Wurundjeri woi-wurrung people — and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people — who continue to dance on Country, and have done, for thousands of generations. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

YOUTH CHOREOLAB + PROJECT Z: A day of movement, experimentation & creation for young artists ages 14-25

YOUTH CHOREOLAB:
Delve into different methods of improvisation, movement making and choreography shared by leading dance artists.

Workshops led by:
Amber McCartney (Choreographer: Baby Girl, Tiny Infinite Deaths);
Chelsea Byrne (YDMI Artistic Director, Dance Artist & Educator); and
Priya Srinivasan (Breaking Ground Award winner at the Green Room Awards for The Durga Chronicles 2023).

PROJECT Z:
Introducing Youth Dance Makers Initiative’s major choreographic project for 2024. A youth-lead dance film collaboration mentored by Erin O’Rourke, winner of the 2022 Telstra Emerging Choreographer of the Year for her film ‘Mellow Yellow’.
Whats the film going to be about? How is it going to unfold? …You decide!
Youth Dance Makers Initiative create opportunities for young people to come together, collaborate with experienced artists and voice your ideas, opinions and perspectives though powerful dance works.
This session is for anyone interested in participating in Project Z next year and/or having a say about the themes and ideas that deserve to be expressed through dance on film.

Attend the whole day with the Full Day Pass, or select which session you would like to attend.
Attendees can also access discounted tickets to Now Pieces #8 and #9 at Dancehouse at 6pm curated by Amelia O’Leary and 7:30pm curated by Efren Pamilican, through the Book link below.

Youth Dance Maker’s Initiative strongly believes that young voices have ideas, skills and talent worth bringing to the fore. We strive to create a safe, inclusive and encouraging environment for young people to develop their creative, collaborative and expressive skills, connect with a diverse range of dance and interdisciplinary artists and expand perceptions of dance as an artform. It is our mission to empower young people with the tools and confidence to express their ideas and perspectives through movement and performance making.
