Dancehouse is on Wurundjeri Country. We offer our respects to the Wurundjeri woi-wurrung people — and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people — who continue to dance on Country, and have done, for thousands of generations. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

8×10 — A Moment Shared welcomes you to witness and experience the rich diversity of performances of the regular participants of In The Moment, a weekly Dancehousing event hosted every Monday for practising and developing improvisational performance in a supportive space.

Eight improvisors will share 10-minute solos with an open audience. Improvisation as a performance technique is the disciplined exploration of embodied practice that leads to crafted, spontaneous, and artful communication made on-the-go. It builds on the lineage of improvisation in contemporary dance practice in Melbourne, also extending to forms and methods of improvisation in other creative fields and cultural practices.

Performers: Pauline Sherlock, Sarah Cathcart, Rosie Fayman, Lindy Ferguson, Kimberley Downing, Anna White, Des Barry, Phil Mitchell, and other regular attendees from In The Moment
Facilitators: Bronwen Kamasz and Peter Trotman

Melbourne based artist, Bronwen Kamasz, has been honing her skills as an improviser for several years. Originally a sculptural installation artist, Bronwen has blended her experience with material in space to the body in space to create a kinaesthetic experience for the viewer that investigates the psychosocial space of the gallery/stage. Bronwen is a core member of Environmental Performance Authority (EPA) who create site specific and participatory walking performances.
Always happy to pick up old threads from the past, Bronwen has been delving into printmaking and alternative photography processes such as frottage and sun printing, as they rely on immediate relationships to built and natural environments.

Peter Trotman has over 40-years’ experience as an Improvised Performance artist. A leading practitioner of the form, he has taught and performed both nationally and internationally. He works with movement and text and is known for his strong sense of theatre, imagination, and diverse movement style.
