After a sold-out 2019 season, Sangam: Festival of Performing Arts of South Asia and Diaspora returns with a new dance commissioning initiative. From the most experimental to the most classical, in 2021, in partnership with Dancehouse, Sangam seeks to support the development and presentation of up to 6 new dance/movement works by South Asian and Diaspora artists.

Successful artists will receive:

  • Time and space at Dancehouse for development
  • Peer and Mentor feedback
  • Performance outcome as part of Sangam 2021 Dancehouse showings
  • $750-$1500 in fees (dependent on the scale of the project)
  • Support preparing applications for additional funding
  • COVID-safe adaptation support where required

Applicants must:

  • Be South Asian or have a definitive connection to South Asia
  • Be based in Victoria for live performances
  • Can be based nationally or internationally for digital work
  • Have an established dance practise and be able to demonstrate their ability to create high-quality work
  • Submit EOI by 20 November 2020, 11.59pm
  • Be solos/duets/trios only
  • Have pre-recorded soundtracks OR work with sound artists (as part of duet/trio)
