Dancehouse is on Wurundjeri Country. We offer our respects to the Wurundjeri woi-wurrung people — and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people — who continue to dance on Country, and have done, for thousands of generations. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Afro Cuban, Graham Contemporary — Irina de Loche

Afro Cuban Dance & Graham-based Contemporary

AFRO LATIN COMBO

This class is pitched to those with little experience, older adults, and those who think they have two left feet. The movements and sequences are an antidote to the postural rigidity of Western culture, easy to follow and low impact. The aim of the class is to promote self confidence, fitness and mental wellbeing while immersing oneself in the play of dance.

CONTEMPORARY MOVES AND MOVERS

Some prior dance experience is desirable. The building blocks of this class are the floor barre exercises of Martha Graham with emphases on breath, spine and core. Dance sequences will use some of the fundamentals of this technique which is both earthy and elegant. The aim is to open the gateway to inhabiting the body in a healthy and aesthetic way.
All classes run in 4 week blocks

Irina de Loche danced in folkloric groups as a child, and later studied ballet and various folk and contemporary styles throughout her career. Irina is also trained in yoga, pilates, and massage, drawing on these in her dance teaching practice.

Irina was able to marry her passion for environmental and animal welfare issues with dance, by running a non for profit dance company for 12 years. This is where her deep interest in choreography was honed and the belief that dance is for all, irrespective of age, gender or ability.
The benefits, social, emotional, physical and increased neuroplasticity are therefore key drivers in her practice.
