Our Autumn Foundations Course will be a chance for those completely new to bellydance to learn the serpentine foundations of bellydance, or for more experienced dancers to hone and polish the basics!
Our holistic movement classes include, yoga, pilates conditioning, barre drills and of course bellydance! Our courses provide a strong foundations in traditional and fusion bellydance styles, as well as opportunities to skill up in props and performance!
I’ve been bellydancing for nearly 20 years, and teaching for over 10 years, and it’s true that you can never drill the foundations and basics in bellydance too much – just ask a professional.
In this course, you’ll learn weave, sinuous, serpentine and sensual flowing shapes with your body, arms and hips, like undulations, sidewaves, jewels, sidewinders and classic and contemporary ways to flow and travel with them.
We’ll share where the movements come from a cultural context, how they are used in the dance traditionally from the MENAITH region (Middle East, North Africa, India, Turkey or Hellenic cultures) and in the contemporary format, the muscle mechanics and how to safely articulate the movements, and how/where to strengthen the body to create the movement safely.

A SEQ-born and bred, now predominantly Melbourne-based dance and wellness movement teacher and professional performance artist, Laura Entwined (aka Entwined Bellydance, Yoga, Pilates) has been intensively studying the art and techniques of yoga, pilates, barre and dance for 18 – 20 years. She has been teaching bellydance workshops around the country since 2010, and successful weekly classes in Melbourne since 2013. She has extensively studied traditional Raqs Sharqi (Egyptian Dance & Oriental Dance) as well as contemporary Fusion Bellydance styles, drawing on the traditional dances of the MENAITH (Middle East, North Africa, India, Turkish & Hellenic cultures). Laura started teaching yoga in 2019 and pilates in 2020, and has been a regular performer and teacher at festivals around the county for the past 13years. She loves using bellydance, yoga and pilates movement medicine practices as a tool to stretch and strengthen the body, unlock, unwind, restore and renew, and connect with breath and a deeper consciousness. She regularly teaches and performs around Australia, has been a guest artist in NZ, Bali and USA over the past decade, as well as guesting at a number of international online festivals during covid.
