Mountain Wind Water: From Stillness to Contemporary Dance — Lou Duckett

MOUNTAIN WIND WATER: FROM STILLNESS TO CONTEMPORARY DANCE

Class will begin with restorative practise; sitting meditation, a place of stillness before movement, some gentle suggestions to the body, and health practices using breath and focus to build energy. If you are not comfortable meditation please come half an hour later to join the movement part of class at 11 am.

Dance class will begin with a gentle warm up; the body will be woken up, through awareness, breath, stretches and movement material . You will be encouraged to explore, and enquire into your range of movement. We will then cover some movement phrases which are more recognisably contemporary dance with sequences and phrases of movement.

Louisa Duckett trained at the Arts Educational School UK and completed her BA Hons at London Contemporary Dance. She has a degree in Chinese Medicine from Victoria University, a Graduate Diploma in Choreography from VCA and a Post Graduate Diploma in Asian Studies from Melbourne. Being born in Hong Kong she has had a keen interest in Asian Philosophies. Of particular interest are Daoist ideas that seek to place humans in a natural flow of consciousness, and methods that relate to somatic body/mind praxis and embodied movement. She has meditated for years, studied, Tai Qi with Gerda Geddes, Qi Gong and holds an Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Certificate Level 1 & 2. In amongst a traditional dance background of Classical and Contemporary Dance she finds inspiration from these philosophical frameworks.
