Dancehouse is on Wurundjeri Country. We offer our respects to the Wurundjeri woi-wurrung people — and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people — who continue to dance on Country, and have done, for thousands of generations. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Moving Multiplicities Pt II: Embodied Dialogues

Moving Multiplicities is a six-week dance series that invites participants to delve into somatic research, contemporary dance training, and contact and improvisation techniques. This workshop is designed for those who are passionate about movement exploration, improvisation, somatic practices and composition.

In this series, we will explore tools and techniques for dancing in solo, duet, and group contexts, with a focus on the physical, sensorial, imaginative, and relational. Each class consist of experiential research grounded in weight, gravity, and touch. As we progress, we will investigate compositional aspects and choreographic structures for a playful and rigorous investigation of space, time, and movement.

Participants will have the opportunity to cultivate self-care, curiosity, agency, and empathy for others as they explore technical repatterning, quiet somatic investigations, improvisational scores, as well as open-ended explorations that move towards composing and performing in duets and groups. Although partnering and touch will be emphasized, please note, this is not a “contact improvisation” class.

Regardless of your level of dance experience, each session provides a focused container for movement investigation that aims to support your creative practice. Through experimentation and risk-taking, we will explore the generation of dances in real time, embracing the possibilities that arise from both success and failure.

This is the second iteration of Moving Multiplicities, but participation in the first series is not required. If you have any questions about whether this series is right for you, please feel free to reach out for more information.
