Almost On The Verge
Catherine Magill and Peter Trotman
This lightly facilitated day-long event will offer a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment for practicing improvised performance. The day’s sessions will be structured in a simple way to allow time for everyone to perform, reflect, and receive positive feedback. Participants will have the opportunity to create multiple short pieces that explore across movement, dance, sound and spoken word.
This event builds on the lineage of improvisation in contemporary dance practice in Melbourne and opens to forms and methods of improvisation in other creative fields and cultural practices. Improvisation as a performance technique is the disciplined exploration of embodied practice that leads to crafted, spontaneous, and artful communication made on-the-go.
Catherine Magill and Peter Trotman each have over 30 years experience as Improvised Performance artists. Leading practitioners of the form they have taught and performed both nationally and internationally. Both artists work with movement and text and are known for their strong sense of theatre, clever repartee and diverse movement styles. Catherine and Peter are excited to present this second peer practice event for the Improvisation Community.
