Waacking Inferno
Burn City Waack
During the early 1970s when disco was the popular sound, a cultural movement had been born in the underground LGBT clubs of Los Angeles that was frequented by African American/Latinx patrons. It was a dance called ‘Waacking’—expressive, musical and unapologetic.
Waacking Inferno brings together Waackers and disco lovers from all over Australia and more to share a stage, exchange and showcase their creative talents through this art form. Judged by the internationally renown French dancer/choreographer, Princess Madoki (Beyonce, Louis & The Yakuza and more), we invite you to celebrate this culture with us—a movement that has helped so many individuals find their voice through queer culture, disco music and dance.
Burn City Waack is community based in Melbourne dedicated to the art form Waacking. Waacking is a culture that began in the underground LGBT clubs of Los Angeles and later spread out into the world. It’s a safe space for all individuals who want to learn/share in the culture of the dance in a respectful environment connecting locals with international leaders in the form.
