Dancehouse is on Wurundjeri Country. We offer our respects to the Wurundjeri woi-wurrung people — and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people — who continue to dance on Country, and have done, for thousands of generations. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Inertia

Emerging Choreographers Program

1/1
2—4 December 2021

About Bookings:

The Inertia program is grouped into five sessions that each present works by between three and four artists and one stand alone collaborative film work. To see all the artists’ works, you must book into multiple sessions. With strict capacities in venues this year, we ask that you respect your reservation and the amazing artists and creatives performing, regardless of cost. If you’re feeling unwell or can no longer join us, please let us know by 1pm Thursday 2 December so we can offer your seat to someone else.

Held over three days at Dancehouse, Inertia presents 17 works-in-progress by 19 talented, emerging dance artists.

From contemporary choreographers to contact improvisors, street stylists to classical Indian dancers, these young people with diverse backgrounds introduce their fledgling practices. Featuring performances, research sharings and film installations, Inertia shares works-in-progress ranging from the conventional to the unconventional, the familiar to the less familiar.

Over the past two weeks since Victoria reopened, these artists have collaborated, experimented and investigated new ideas to develop their own fresh processes and projects.

Inertia invites audiences to experience short works across forms from some of Victoria’s most exciting emerging choreographers.

Presented in four distinct mixed bills and one stand-alone installation, Inertia sees these artists moving against the resistance of the past two years and innovating their practice in a new context.
