Alix Kuijpers is a queer transdisciplinary choreographic artist born and raised on Kaurna Yerta in South Australia. Kuijpers is often recognised for their advocacy for emerging SA artists following their roles as a Carclew Sharehouse Resident (2023), Dance Hub SA Associate Artist (2023) and facilitator of the Australian Dance Theatre Tread Ensemble (2024). Kuijpers’ most notable achievement includes becoming the first dance honours student at a South Australian institution, receiving first-class honours from Flinders University for his solo work IMMATERIAL. This then led to the creation of i know the end which received the 2023 emerging artist award from Adelaide Fringe. Kuijpers has continued to perform and create internationally, working with Jacob Jonas: The Company and Thar Be Dragons in 2023. His most notable sonic commissions include creating the sound score for Motus Collective’s work The Leftovers, he also created multiple scores for Circus SA, Dance Hub SA and for Ceremonial by Amelia Watson, which premiered at theResiDanza di Primavera in Italy. Recent works have seen Kuijpers continue to research his relationship with choreography, movement and music including the works Cowl (2023), Skin (2023), Wish You Were Here (2024) and Grim Grinning Ghosts (2024), which is currently touring nationally.
Hanna Instrell-Walker is an Independent Artist and Choreographer working on Kaurna Land, having graduated from Adelaide College of the Arts in 2021. In mid 2022, Hanna worked with Adelaide Sakura Troupe to begin hybridising contemporary dance with traditional Japanese dance. A work called Les Japonaises was further developed during the Adelaide Festival Centre’s InSpace Development Program in 2023. With fellow graduates Caroline De Wan and Kate Burgess, Hanna co-founded Alchemy Dance Collective at the beginning of 2023, with the intention to make more opportunities for independent dancers in Adelaide. Hanna has contributed to the collective by facilitating Groundskeeping classes by teaching Ballet, co-curating the program for Trilogy Film Fest, filming for Alchemy’s J.A.C.D Program, and mentoring students as a part of Alchemy’s new Secondment Program. Through her recent travels, Hanna found a particular interest in the idea of mind-body connection and intrinsic connection. This was the initial inspiration behind her work ‘Soul’ which was showcased as part of Alchemy’s debut Fringe show ‘Soul & Deja Vu.’ In 2024 as a part of Alchemy’s Fringe Season, Hanna helped produce Alix Kuijpers’ ‘Grim Grinning Ghosts,’ and performed in ‘Pulp’ which was an improvised durational work held at Therapy Cocktail Bar. Later in April Hanna also partook in producing Amelia Watson’s first iteration of ‘Sentiments’ at Carclew.
Caroline De Wan is a Canberra born, Adelaide based independent dancer and choreographer. She graduated from the Adelaide College of the Arts in 2021 and has since been deepening her interest in storytelling. Caroline prefers to work within alternative performance spaces, choreographing works for galleries, night clubs, and immersive experiences. She has also been assisting with movement within the field of motion capture. In January 2023 Caroline co-founded Alchemy Dance Collective, a collective focused on supporting the dance community of Adelaide. Caroline has recently begun operating as a producer for other independent artists through Alchemy Collective. Caroline has also been a performer in both of the works that won overall Best Emerging Artist in the Adelaide Fringe Festival for 2023 and 2024, I know the end and That’s Amore. Caroline’s current focus is dance on film, running workshop style developments for artists to understand the possibility of film while also continuously developing her own skills.
