Dancehouse is on Wurundjeri Country. We offer our respects to the Wurundjeri woi-wurrung people — and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people — who continue to dance on Country, and have done, for thousands of generations. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Workshops for performers facilitated by Emerging Choreographer Program participants Thomas Woodman and Jacqui Maida.

Presented as part of the 2022 Take 22 program at Dancehouse.

Thomas Woodman | Move your mouth

1pm, Saturday 3 December, Sylvia Staehli Theatre
Do you have a topic, issue, concept, dream, (anything) that you want to discuss? Move your mouth is an informal discussion platform for anyone who is interested to talk about dance and choreography in an expanded sense. Bring an idea with you or think of one on the spot.

A timer will be set, the focus of the conversations will be made apparent and off we will go. Chitter chatter to your heart’s content (for 90 minutes to be precise).

Jacqui Maida | Improvisational Workshop: The Lettuce, Book and the Lighting Desk

3pm, Saturday 3 December, Upstairs Studio
This opportunity is an explanation of Jacqui Maida’s current and developing improvisation practise: The Lettuce, Book and the Lighting Desk.

The time together will involve an introduction, designated movement time, and an informal sharing conversation. Encouraged by sound and by some vocal cues, the workshop will revolve around this framework, thus developing conversation of movement transition, identification, and manipulation. The session looks to be a creative, focussed and curious exchange for experienced dancers, and aims to encourage the participants to become aware of their habits, and to help personalise the framework for their own independent discovery.
